Making Selection in Photoshop

Hello United Designers..
Today, we will discuss about making selection in photoshop.
Depend on me, There are 5 ways to make selection in photoshop, such as :
1. By Marquee Tools
2. By Lasso Tools
3. By Quick Selection Tools
4. By Pen Tools
5. By Editting in Quick Mask Mode

Ok, we will discuss about them one by one.

1. First is using the Marquee Tools


Marquee Tools are divided to 4parts, they are : Rectangle Marquee Tool, Elliptical Marquee Tool, Single Row Marquee Tool, and Single Column Marquee Tool. These Marquee Tools are used for selecting the objects which of shapes are consisted by rectangle and ellips, and just a line. Like selecting frame photo, tire, and so on. Weakness is : Cannot do selection for a multishape objects or polygon objects.

2. Second is using the Lasso Tools



Lasso Tools are divided to 3parts, they are : Lasso Tool, Polygon Lasso Tool, Magnetic Lasso Tool. These Lasso Tool are used for selecting the multishape object, such as : person, motorcycle, and so on. So, what are their differences? We discuss it one by one :
a. Lasso Tool
It is used for doing selection but, we must press our mouse continuously Don’t release your mouse. If you release your mouse, the selection will be done.

b. Polygonal Lasso Tool
A Selection Tool that is consisted by straight line and we can make polygon selection from it. It means that if you klick one side to the other side, it will be made a straight line or selection. So, how we make the round selection or the polygon selection? Yup, just doing it click by click and little by little. Lets see this picture for the example.



The red ellips are the areas where you click with Polygon Lasso Tool.

c. Magnetic Lasso Tool
This Lasso Tool can make the fastest selection among the other lasso tools. But It has a requisite. The Requisite is “The object must have the clear border to make it different with its border”. If the requisite is fulfilled, you can do selection with this methode. Just move your mouse throughout the object border.
Look at this Picture.



We can doing selection with this methode because this object have the clear border and the contrast different color from its background.


We cannot do selection with this object ( i’ve sign it with red pen ) because why? You know the reason. Because we have discussed the reason above.


3. Third is using Quick Selection and Magic Wand Tool


a. Quick Selectin Tool.
For use it, klick and drag object that have same color.

Like photo above, klik on the first ellips klick and drag your mouse to the second ellips. It’s automatically selecting that area.

b. Magic Wand Tool
It’s different with Quick Selection Tool. To use Magic Wand Tool, just click the object that has same color and clear border. For example.

For select the shoe, just click on the white background, and press CTRL + I on your keyboard.


4. Forth is using Pen Tools
It’s same with Polygon Lasso Tool, you do click per click. But to do this methode for ellipse object or polygon object, you must do some tricks.
Look at this picture.
First, click the angles of the object.


Second, choose Add Anchor Point Tool.


Click on the first ellips, release your click. Then click it again and drag it to the second ellips.




Next, click and drag the both trunk and make it suitable with the object.

Then, with Path Selection Tool, Click on your canvas. Choose “Make Selection”, and Cklick OK.
Your Selection is done.

5. Fifth is using Editting in Quick Mask Mode
First, Click Edit in Quick Mask Mode and make sure the foreground is black and background color is white.

Use Brush Tool, and spread it on the object that want to be selected.


If you have finished brushing all of that object, klick Edit in Standard Mode.


Your Selection is done.

Your Graffiti Picture on the Brick

Hello United Designers..
Now, we will discuss about how to make your graffiti picture on the bricks.
This is the example.



So, The first thing that you must prepare is your photo, bricks picture, and graffiti font style. And in this case, i use wings picture too. So, You can download them here..

Ok, let’s begin !
1. First, open your picture, and also open the bricks picture that you dowloaded.


2. Next, cut your picture, and move it to bricks picture. You can manage the size by your self. Here I try to make my picture a little aslant.


3. Brighten Your picture by using curve. Just pres Ctrl + M on your keyboard.


4. Next, we will make our picture looks like a painting. So klick Filter --> Filter Gallery.

5. In Artistic Tab, choose Poster Edges and manage the values. In this case, I give : Edge Tickness =2, Edge Intensity =1, Posterization = 0.


6. We have not finished yet. Klick New Effect Layer under the dialog box.


7. Klick Film Grain Effect, and manage the values. In this case, I give : Grain = 4, Highlight Area = 0, Intensity = 10.

8. Klick OK.

9. Next, Select the background layer. Select brick by brick that is exactly under our picture with Magic Wand Tool. Look at this picture.

10. Invert the selection, or Press Shift + Ctrl + I. And Then Select our picture layer or Layer 1.


11. Cut the selection or press CTRL + X, and paste it or press CTRL + V.

12. There will be a new layer, Layer 2.

13. Our picture will be mussy, so we arrange it. Klick Move Tool, and move the Layer 2 to the suitable place. So the picture will not be mussy again. Look at the picture.

14. And then, decrease the opicity of Layer 2 = 70.

15. Open the wings picture that you've downloaded, and drag it to the bricks picture! To move it, you must separate the wings from the white background. To separate the wings from the white background, just use Magic Wand Tool and klick on the white canvas of it. Press Ctrl + I to Invert the selection and and you can drag it to the bricks picture.

16. After draging the wings, move down the wings layer under the the Layer 1. Just pressing CTRL + [ to move down layers. Or just pressing CTRL : ] to move up layers.

17. Select the layer of the wings. And give Filter Effects like the ways number 4 untill 8. Or just press CTRL + F to give the last effects.

18. Then, do the ways like number 9 untill 11.

Invert selection

Select wings layer.

Cut and Paste. The new layer will be mussy. Arrange it to be suitable place to that wings.

Give Oppacity = 50 of that new layer wings or Layer 4.

19. Yah, Your Graffiti Picture is done. Here, I add Graffiti Letters. If you wanna add this too, first you must install the font that you’ve dowloaded. About installing the font, you can see my article which of title is “The Role of Font in Design”.

20. Ok. Add letters of GRAFFITI one by one on your picture like this. And give color : # 2d2d2d

  

21. And Merge those all letters, select all layers of the letters and press CTRL + E. So, it will be on 1layer. Then, Klick Filter à Noise à Add Noise.

And fill the mount = 5, to make the surface of the letters to be coarse, same as the surface of the bricks that is coarse too.

22. For that Graffiti Letters, Do the ways like number 9 untill 14. Finish. Your Whole Graffiti is done.

Role of Font in Design

Hello United Designer.. :D

Now, we will discuss about role of font in a design.

As we know that font is one of the most important thing in a design. Even, sometimes there are some designs that needn’t to put words inside them. But, in advertisement, word is important to describe what the meaning of the picture. But, you needn’t to put a lot of words inside your advertisement design. Just a short, concise, and exact. And if there’s many words inside your advertisement design, you need’t to put many fonts too in every sentences inside. Because, it’s pleonastic and it makes the readers a little confuse, and it will be bad. Just useing it as it’s necessary.

Oh ya, i will share you this beatifull font. Check it out, Guys !

To install those font, you can use this way :

1. Open file of that font. In this case I compress it with WinRAR. So, just open it.

2. Choose font you want to install, fo this example, I want to install 1980 Portable. And

double klick  that file. And you will see two files inside.

3. Double Klick 1 file whose extention is *.TTF , and you will see

4. Klick install. Finish
